Minimally Invasive Pediatric Dentistry- Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) - Canyon Pediatric Dentistry - San Ramon-min

Protecting Young Smiles with Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a liquid solution containing silver and fluoride that when applied to cavities, can help slow down or even stop their progression. We use SDF primarily for small cavities to prevent the need for more invasive treatment like fillings. It’s a quick, straightforward process and our preferred minimally invasive approach with children.

ICON Treatment: Advanced Care for White Spot Lesions

ICON, also known as resin infiltration, is a minimally invasive way to treat white spot lesions on teeth. White spot lesions can be present on teeth as a result of dental development or can arise after orthodontic treatment. ICON is an easily applied treatment that can significantly minimize the appearance of white spot lesions. We always recommend that if a white spot lesion is bothering your child, we try ICON before a filling in order to help preserve natural tooth structure.

Hall Technique - Canyon Pediatric Dentistry - San Ramon-min

The Hall Technique: A No-Drill Solution for Childhood Cavities

The Hall Technique offers a gentle way to restore decayed teeth in children without numbing (‘shots’) or tooth preparation (‘drilling’). Perfect for kids who feel nervous about traditional dental treatment, this method involves placing a stainless steel crown directly over the cavity, stopping decay in its tracks. The scientific rationale behind this method is that if bacteria in a cavity are fully covered by a crown, then the bacteria suffocate and the cavity arrests. Children do generally well with this procedure and end up being very proud of their new shiny tooth!

*Note that minimally invasive dentistry is not an option for every tooth. We will carefully evaluate your child’s dental needs and behavior and work together to determine the best treatment plan.
